Frequently Asked Questions
- 1. What is collagen?
-
Collagen is a protein found naturally in the body. Between the age of 25 and 30, the level of collagen in the body/skin slowly starts decreasing. A young person’s skin can contain as much as 80% collagen. In our 30s, the amount of collagen starts to drop by about 1-2% a year.
Collagen is the single most important factor in keeping wrinkles at bay and retaining your skin’s resilience and elasticity. When the skin loses its resistance to external influences such as sunlight, pollution, diet and smoking, it becomes less firm and starts to develop lines and wrinkles.
Collagen is also found in protein-rich foods, but in order for the skin to take advantage of the collagen we eat, it has to be broken down into exact peptide lengths. Proteins in food are not hydrolysed, and therefore have no such effect on the skin. The collagen we use for The Solution has been derived from bivone sources.
- 2. What is The Solution™ Beauty collagen?
-
The Solution™ Beauty collagen is an anti-wrinkle product, and more specifically a bioactive collagen powder that you take orally and that works from within. The product counteracts the skin's ageing process and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. The collagen actually works on all skin, so it also helps in reducing the appearance of cellulite and it makes the whole skin firmer and more elastic. A number of detailed studies can confirm this. Read more about the studies here.
- 3. Who is Oslo Skin Lab
-
Oslo Skin Lab's products are distributed by NutraQ AS, one of Norway's leading companies within the sale of health and beauty products directly to the consumer, and on the market since 1998. NutraQ AS is affiliated with a dedicated specialist department that assists in developing products with ingredients that have strong documentation.
- 4. What is the difference between collagen in creams that you apply to the skin and collagen powders that you drink?
-
Independent studies have been conducted that show significant effects on skin when eating/drinking Verisol® collagen. This is the bioactive collagen we use in The Solution®. By eating/drinking collagen, you are treating all the skin on your body – not just on your face. For optimal skin care, you should also add moisture and sun protection by using creams. Consult with professionals about which creams are best suited for your skin type.
- 5. How/why does collagen work?
-
There are different types of collagen. Type 1 acts on your skin and type 2 on your joints. The Solution™ contains type 1 collagen.
This type of collagen is special as the collagen protein is hydrolysed, i.e. broken down by enzymes to form peptides to a chain of amino acids. It is this unique and controlled process in which specific enzymes break the collagen down into collagen peptides that is essential for the effect this product has on reducing wrinkles. These peptides (developed by Verisol®) have been proven in double-blind studies to have a good effect on skin elasticity, lines and wrinkles. Read more about the independent studies here. - 6. When should I start using The Solution™ Beauty collagen to prevent wrinkles?
-
To prevent wrinkles you should start taking the product between the age of 25 and the age of 30. This is when the levels of collagen start to decrease in our bodies/skin. The Solution™ Beauty collagen both prevents and reduces wrinkles. Starting at a later age, will result in decreased wrinkle depth and increased firmness and elasciticty of the skin. Cellulite will become less visible with extended use.
- 7. How often do I have to use The Solution™ Beauty collagen?
-
Collagen powder should be taken daily over time for best effect. Studies of facial skin have been conducted over a period of eight weeks, while the study involving cellulite was conducted over a period of six months. It does not matter if you forget to take the product for a day or two, but if you stop taking it all together, the effect will slowly disappear. You can take the powder at any time of the day.
- 8. Can I use collagen when breastfeeding or pregnant?
-
Collagen is a protein already found in the body, so should not represent a risk. However, none of these products have been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding women – so we cannot make any 100% claims. We therefore recommend a chat with your doctor as to whether supplements are OK or not in your case.
- 9. What kind of studies have been conducted on the product?
-
In 2014, the German company Gelita published study results regarding oral intake of collagen peptides with the Verisol® trademark. The results were sensational, with a total 20% reduction in wrinkle depth measured.
A study from 2013 shows that Verisol® collagen increases the elasticity of the skin by a total of 15% after just four weeks. A significant reduction in cellulite was recorded during a study that took place over six months. The results were published in 2015.
All the studies are double-blind, randomised and placebo-controlled and published in reputable medical journals. 114 test participants (females) aged 45-65 years took part. Participants received 2.5 grams of Verisol® or a placebo once a day for eight weeks. There were 57 women in each group. Read more about the studies here. - 10. What are double blinded studies?
-
A double blinded test/study is when neither the participant nor the person conducting the study knows which participant receives the active ingredient and which receives the placebo (pill without active ingredient). These are the same types of studies used for pharmaceuticals. Numerous skin care/beauty studies are performed on the basis of the test participants’ self-assessment. You can read more about the studies here.
- 11. What can I mix The Solution™ collagen powder with?
-
The Solution™ Anti-wrinkle collagen is a powder, completely without additives so also without added smell and taste, which can be mixed into both food and drink, hot or cold. Take it as part of your daily routine, mix it into your coffee/tea, juice, yoghurt, porridge, smoothie or simply in a glass of cold water. You can take The Solution at any moment of the day, whatever suits you best.
- 12. Is the collagen powder an animal product?
-
Yes, the collagen powder is extracted from bovine sources (cattle) that are part of the food production chain. The material is processed according to EU regulations and safety measures.
We chose this specific collagen because various studies have been done into it, with very promising results. - 13. The powder forms lumps. What can I do?
-
If you mix the powder with a liquid, it can sometimes form lumps. When you mix the powder with a liquid, stir it well then leave for a few minutes until it has dissolved.

- 17. I read that ESFA was negative about the collagen you use. What do you have to say about this?
-
"It is not correct that EFSA assessed the study as non-compliant. The European Food Safety Authority EFSA assesses health claims that have an impact on health and not "cosmetic" claims that affect appearance.
Gelita unfortunately stated in its application that the effect of Verisol on wrinkles and skin elasticity does affect the health of the skin (such as the skin barrier), while the effect only affects the appearance of the skin.
EFSA has therefore not assessed whether the documentation on wrinkles and skin elasticity is good enough, as these effects are not health claims and are thus outside the rules they manage. The available studies show cosmetic effects that improve the appearance of the skin in the form of reduced wrinkles and increased elasticity."
